Chickens tend to peck at red objects, which is remarkable because their comb and wattles themselves are red. In the event of a lack of space, it can also happen that they peck each other to death.

They can understand cause-and-effect relationships. Chickens know object permanence: when they lose sight of an object of interest, they look for it. Chickens are also capable of self-control. This had previously only been demonstrated in humans and other great apes.
